The Mummy (1999), directed by Stephen Sommers, is an action-adventure film set in ancient Egypt. The story follows adventurer Rick O’Connell as he accidentally awakens an ancient evil during an archaeological expedition to the lost city of Hamunaptra. I rebranded the iconic film by creating a title sequence that captures the themes of the story.

About the project
Inspired by a key moment in The Mummy, the title sequence explores the rise of Imhotep’s immense power. It takes us through endless desert sands as a solar eclipse gradually unfolds, with ancient artifacts and symbols emerging to hint at Egypt’s mysterious past. As the sky darkens and the eclipse reaches its peak, the title appears before being swept away by the wind, leaving behind an unsettling silence.
Process
I reimagined the title sequence for The Mummy, researching film and television title sequences to understand how pacing, editing, and visual storytelling can capture an audience’s attention. Inspired by Dune and its atmospheric visuals, cinematic transitions, and gradual build-up of tension, I wanted to bring a more contemporary approach to the film’s original visual elements while staying true to its mysterious, ancient Egyptian setting. The concept centers on Imhotep’s growing power, reflecting how his strength gradually returns throughout the film.
